A Bee-Friendly Municipality

For every taste

We Want to be a Bee-Friendly Municipality

Bees play an important role in nature, including in the existence of mankind. In the municipality, we are aware of their extraordinary mission, as beekeeping is also deeply rooted in our traditions.

This year, we have already paid tribute to bees and other pollinators with a number of projects:

  • the planting of linden trees for newborns and the establishment of linden tree plantations on Šarhova Path in Ruše and along the cycling path in Bistrica ob Dravi,
  • some green areas are mowed when the flowers have bloomed, as the "We don't mow, we take care of the bees" signboards remind you of this,
  • planting of honey plants with the pupils of Osnovna Šola Janko Glazerja Ruše and beekeepers, and the mayor Urška Repolusk also planted her tree, with which we joined the Slovenian campaign of the Beekeepers' Union of Slovenia to plant 2 million honey plants in Slovenia by 2030,
  • we arranged a new walking trail "Bee Trail".

On World Bee Day, May 20, we also hang the municipal beekeeping flag, because as a sustainable municipality, we want to raise awareness of the importance of preserving bees and other pollinators.

May such and similar projects encourage all of us to plant a honey tree, wait to mow our lawns, carefully spray fruit trees, and thereby ensure the conditions for the survival of bees and thus for the survival of humans. Bees and other pollinators will thank us, and our city will flourish.
