Cerkev Marijinega imena Ruše

The church was built in 1387, and to this day it has been preserved as a witness of artistic development over different periods.

The exterior of the church greets us with traces of Baroque and Gothic. We are reminded of this by the escalated rebels surrounding the presbytery. When we cross the threshold of the church, the interior comes to life in baroque splendour. The rich stucco attracts the most attention. Among the motifs, we can find acanthus leaves, ribbons and tendrils, flower baskets, cornucopias, shell motifs and cartouches, and the painted medallions are surrounded by frames decorated with the same ornamentation.

Mary, the Mother of God, always lived on earth in firm faith and connection with God. It was in this strength and trust in God and his will that she had to accept God's plan to become the Mother of God and then utter those meaningful words: "Behold, I am the daughter of the Lord, let it be done to me according to your word." (Luke 1:38) Mary accompanied Jesus from the beginning of his life. She became his mother, she witnessed his first miracle in Cana of Galilee, and she was also with him in suffering, because we read in the Gospel according to John that "beside the cross of Jesus stood his mother. When Jesus saw his mother and next to her the disciple ... said to the mother: Woman, look at your son! Then she said to the disciple: "Look at your mother! (cf. Jn 19, 25−27). According to these words and in this place, on Calvary, where Jesus redeemed all people with his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead, Mary also becomes our mother.

The parish holiday is September 12, when we celebrate Ruška Nedelja.
